Charlie Richardson

Charlie trained from an early age in classical ballet and theatre, before progressing on to a Contemporary Dance degree with the University of Hull. Following graduation, Charlie focussed on her writing, contemporary theatre creation and drama facilitation work with young people in South Yorkshire. Her dedication to creativity within theatre arts led to her spending many years as a Drama Specialist teacher in Secondary phase education, and most recently saw her invited to be a senior examiner, chair, and assistant principal for a leading exam board.

Charlie is also the founder and director of Usual Void Theatre Company, through which she hosts Scratch events offering a safe space for other artists to share their work – in the summer of 2024, Usual Void were invited to host their Scratch event as part of the Spirit of Independence Film festival.

Based in Sheffield, Charlie has become well known across the theatre network in Yorkshire for her writing and acting, having work successfully shown at Leeds Pub Theatre and at various events at the Doncaster Cast Theatre. Charlie’s most recent work was as the lead actor in the Sam Teal Productions (Viral) Christmas Video The Last Gift, gathering over 2 million views on TikTok alone within the first week.

Credits include The Last Gift (Sam Teale Productions), Disability in TV (BBC documentary produced by Hey Sonny Productions), Albion (By Mike Bartlett for Sheffield University Drama Studio) and When you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go (By Charlie Richardson & Julia Bisby, Doncaster Cast).

When she is not writing or performing, Charlie can be found walking in the Peak District with her working Cocker Spaniel.
