Laura Jury

Laura Jury is an actor based in the beautiful fishing port of Brixham, in South Devon. She has been performing since 1996 when she started in youth theatre. Having also completed an undergraduate degree in film and TV production, she then decided to focus entirely on acting. She moved back to Brixham, and finding there were few opportunities for people to build professional acting careers in her local area, decided to start her own theatre company so that she, and other people facing the same challenges in the area, now had a platform to showcase, and expand. She has run and built the South Devon Players Theatre & Film Company since 2005, which specialises in theatre based on researched history and classical literature, often with a strong action element, winning national arts awards in the UK, and theatre awards in the USA as well - the shows may be performed locally around the southwest on stage but are also streamed online to global audiences. While doing this, she also completed a Masters degree in teaching theatre.

To achieve all of this, Laura now has to wear many additional hats; director, producer, costumier, writer, publicist - you name it!

As a result of her interest in developing recognition of regional and rurally based creatives, Laura is also a member of Equity (the trade union for actors and creatives)'s Directors & Designers committee. She strongly believes that being neurodiverse should not hold anyone back!

As an actor, Laura loves to explore all kinds of characters, but is especially drawn to strong characters, action roles, period drama and sci fi/ post-apocalyptic themes. With a background in martial arts, historical combat/ action, and always loving to learn new skills connected to these areas, she delights in bringing these characters to life. Laura is especially seeking to find more screen acting roles.

In her wider life, beyond acting and creating theatre, Laura particularly enjoys sea swimming, vegetable gardening, photography, history, costuming, and creative writing.
